Today and yesterday I've been working on secondary applications for medical schools - I've received 9 secondary requests so far and my application was just finalized yesterday - there are just 5 more schools to hear from, and I've already heard from my top schools.
This morning I spent a few hours handwashing my clothes, I have 2 blisters on my hands now - probably from wringing them out. There are no washers and dryers to speak of here - at least not widely available - if you have someone else do your laundry, they just handwash and line dry them, so it's better to do it myself so I can make sure nothing gets damaged.
Speaking of clothes, I've purchased 2 Salwar Kameez and 3 sarees since I got here - I just got the undershirts from the tailor, so I'm all ready to wear them now - a saree consists of an undershirt, an underskirt, and 6 meters of fabric that you wrap around in a specific way - this is the most common outfit worn by Indian women, but I've yet to see a whitey in one, so I may stick out like a sore thumb - ha ha ha...
I have so many more great pictures to post, but don't have the time right now...flickr won't allow me to post anything else there until next month, so I'll have to rely on this site - does anyone know any other photo-hosting sites?
On Monday, I leave for Virar - a rural rotation - I'll live with a family who apparently cooks the best food and I've heard the medical rotation is great. Then, on the following weekend, I'm going on a hike led by one of the doctors we work with. Wish me luck - I'll be sleeping in a dung hut and dodging king cobras...
More later, I have to go now - my friend is sick and she's waiting on me to leave...

Thanks for the dental stories. Would you like an elevator? I looked quickly for population stuff, but couldn't easily find any gender distribution, but will see what else I can find.
Thanks for keeping up the stories, Christine. And good luck on those applications... I don't envy the work on those.
